Geely CD: a coupe from China, engine and what to know before buying
The Geely CD is a two-door coupe that the Chinese manufacturer Geely introduced at the 2005 Frankfurt Motor Show. In China, it was known as the “Zhongguolong” (Chinese Dragon). There's not much information about this model, so in this article, we provide verified facts and tips for those who might come across it in used car listings.
Geely CD in brief
The Geely CD is a two-door coupe developed in collaboration with Daewoo specialists. It was first shown at the 2005 Frankfurt Motor Show alongside four other Geely models, and production reportedly took place from 2009 to 2011.
The Chinese name “Zhongguolong” translates to “Chinese Dragon,” and “CD” is the acronym for this phrase in English. It wasn't a high-volume car, so it's quite rare in Lithuania.
Model history and versions
Sources mention only one generation of the Geely CD, and there are virtually no descriptions of its versions or trim levels. This model was not officially sold in Europe.
Therefore, when choosing such a car, the most important thing is not the model version, but the condition of the specific example and its paperwork. Check which market it was built for and how it was registered.
Engine and transmission
The Geely CD has a 1.5-litre petrol engine, based on a Toyota engine. The manufacturer specifies around 94 HP at 6000 rpm. This power allows for smooth driving, although the car isn't particularly fast.
We couldn't find precise information about the gearboxes in the sources, so we recommend checking with the seller to confirm which gearbox is fitted in a specific car.
What to check when buying a used Geely CD
As this is a rare model, the most important thing is parts availability and service. Ask if you can find body parts, lights, and glass, as replacing them can be tricky.
Check for body corrosion, engine operation, fluid leaks, electrical equipment, and the suspension. Inspect if the car shows signs of an accident and verify if its documents are in order.
