Geely Jiaji: generations, engines, and what to know before buying
The Geely Jiaji is a compact MPV, the first of its kind from Geely, on sale since 2019. We look at its generations, engines, and what buyers need to know, as this model isn't officially sold in Lithuania.
Jiaji in brief
The Jiaji was codenamed VF11 during development. The concept model debuted at the 2017 Shanghai Auto Show, with sales in China starting on March 11, 2019. Over 3,000 units were sold in the first month alone. It's built on Geely's own CV platform.
Inside, there's a 12.3-inch touchscreen, some models come with a 360° camera system, voice control, and level two driver assistance features. The car is offered with six or seven seats. The six-seater version has separate 'captain's chairs' in the second row.
Versions – what's the difference?
The first generation (2019–) was offered with a 1.5-litre turbo mild-hybrid (MHEV), a 1.5-litre plug-in hybrid, and a 1.8-litre turbo engine. In September 2021, the refreshed 'Platinum Edition' arrived with revised styling and a 1.8-litre turbo engine.
From late 2022 or early 2023, the significantly updated Jiaji L appeared: it's longer (4826 mm, that's 120 mm more than the original), slightly lower (1695 mm), the same width (1909 mm), and retains the 2805 mm wheelbase. Inside, it gets a new dashboard and 'Galaxy OS' infotainment.
Engines and transmissions
The first-generation 1.5-litre turbo engine with a mild hybrid (MHEV) produces around 190 hp and 300 Nm, driving the wheels through a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT), with front-wheel drive. The “Platinum Edition” features a 1.8-litre turbo engine with around 186 hp and 300 Nm, also with a 7-speed DCT.
The Jiaji L comes with a 1.5-litre turbo engine producing around 180 hp and 290 Nm, paired with a 7-speed wet-clutch DCT, and front-wheel drive across all variants. The manufacturer quotes a top speed of around 190 km/h and fuel consumption of around 6.9 l/100 km according to WLTC.
What to check when buying a used Jiaji
First, find out which version is on offer and whether the car meets European standards. There is no official representation in Lithuania, so inquire about parts and service.
Check the operation of the dual-clutch transmission (no judders or slippage), the condition of the turbocharger, and the service history of oil changes. In hybrid versions, request a diagnostic of the electric system, and in the cabin, test all screens, cameras, and driver-assistance systems.
