Buick Velite 6: compact electric and plug-in hybrid estate
Buick Velite 6 — a compact estate car, sold only in China under the SAIC-GM Buick badge. It's offered as an electric vehicle or a plug-in hybrid. We take a look at what makes it special and what to expect.
Velite 6 in brief
The Velite 6 was first shown as a concept car in 2016, with the production model unveiled at the 2019 Shanghai Auto Show. Initially, only the electric version was offered, with the plug-in hybrid arriving in July 2020.
According to the manufacturer, it's a “multi-purpose vehicle” (MPV) — a compact estate body style.
What sets it apart
The main difference from other Buicks is its compact size and electric drivetrain. Three driving modes are offered (standard, sport, economy) along with three levels of energy recuperation.
In China, the Velite 6 trims are called Entry, Middle and Luxury.
Transmission
The electric Velite 6 Plus version, introduced in October 2019, had a 52.5 kWh battery, around 110 kW (148 hp) of power and approximately 350 Nm of torque. According to NEDC, range was up to 410 km.
As well as the electric version, a plug-in hybrid is also offered. Real-world range will differ from the official figure.
What to check when buying
This car is intended for the Chinese market, so in Lithuania, you can only get it through unofficial channels. Check if it can be registered and what warranty is available.
Inspect the battery condition, charging port (whether it fits European charging stations), software language and spare parts availability.
